The Butt Sauce Story
​
The journey for Poppy’s Butt Shak Butt Sauce began in 2019 after years of providing barbecue for hundreds of our friends and family over the years. Not satisfied with the taste and flavors of big name sauces, we decided to make our own.
Like so many things, creating something worth sharing doesn’t always come easy, whether it’s sauce, or a perfectly smoked piece of meat. It takes time, practice and lots of patience. We spent hundreds of hours in the kitchen and at the table, trying various ingredients and combinations until we thought we had gotten it right.
For the next few years as we continued to cook for folks, we provided them with our new sauces. Using their feedback and suggestions, we tweaked our recipes even more and created what we now feel, are the perfect tasting flavors and textures for our butt sauces!
While our small batch butt sauces might look like other sauces in a bottle, we are uniquely different with our taste and knew we were raising the “bar” in barbecue. Realizing this, we needed to reflect this uniqueness and new standard in our name and our labels as well.
Having created our perfect flavors, we now needed a perfect name. Dave Partin, Sr. was known as “Poppy” to his family and he loved, loved, loved barbecue, whether he was eating it, or fixing it for his family and many, many friends. We decided what better way to honor Poppy’s legacy, as well as his love of barbecue, than to name our sauces after him.
Currently, with three flavors to choose from, we feel there’s a flavor which will have you wanting a little more Poppy’s butt sauce on your plate or in your bowl. Whether it’s our yellow label “Original” which is sweet, butt certainly not an ordinary sauce, our pink label “Sweet Heat” which has a little heat at the end for a smooth finish and is a favorite of so many folks, or our red label “Kick’n” which brings the heat and then some.
Poppy’s butt sauces are delicious on all meats, whether it’s pork, chicken, beef, or your favorite game. Try using Poppy’s butt sauce on something out of the ordinary like tots, or you can even try your favorite flavor as a base on your pizza instead of tomato sauce.
